ATCards

Yesterday's post I shared a photo of one of the pages from my journal. 

Today, I want to share with you the process that I did to make them. 

I took one of the tea dyed papers and put washi tape randomly on the page. I covered the page with clear gesso.

Then I took a stencil and randomly put texture paste on the page. Then I cut them to ATCard sizes - 

2 1/2" x 3 1/2".

From my stash I found some butterflies. I then used watercolours to colour certain sections of the ATCards. 

Behind the butterflies I put some cotton and put a few rhinestones on them. The words I typed out and glued them on.

Tea Dyed Journal Book

I was inspired after watching a video from Marta where she showed you how to tea dye papers. So off I went and tea dyed a whole heap of papers (of different thicknesses), envelopes, music sheets etc.

So off I went.....

All you need to do this is to have a container large enough that the papers will fit in it. Then make some tea - you can use whatever type of tea that you like. I used quite a few teabags in mine. I put the papers in - in hindsight I would put a couple in and then pour some of the tea over it and then add more paper and tea.....that way the papers soak up the tea. I imagine you could do the same thing with coffee.

To dry them, I put them in the oven like Marta did. I also did a small batch, that I let soak for awhile, then I drained the water off them and left them in the tray. Then let the heat (here in Brisbane it's been hot) dry them. i left them for about a couple of days.

So once my papers were dried, I started to create my own journal book. I didn't have a clue on what I was doing, but went with it. I'm so happy with what I've done for my first try. Next time, I would make the stitching on the signatures and the main book a bit better.

Are you feeling overwhelmed?

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you look at a blank page or your craft goodies and think "what am I supposed to do?". You watch heaps of videos and think "why doesn't mine work out like their's". Then the self doubt creeps in.

I know I feel like this quite often.

Yesterday I stepped out of my comfort zone and officially started my blog, my Facebook page and Instagram account.

This year I am hoping to try new things, new techniques. To take a leap of faith and just relax and have some fun and to try not to compare my work with others....so I'm hoping that you can do the same....

Welcome and Australiana Cards

Welcome to my new Blog. It will be a place where I can share my creations as well as tips and videos with you all.

Over the Christmas/New Year break, I created the following cards for my mother in law. They were so fun to make.

The dies I used are from Paper Rose -

* Australian Birds 17940

* Bird on a wire fence 17403

* Kangaroo in Forest 16948

I'm not sure of the brand of the "Hello" die I used.

With what's going on in Australia at the moment with the bush fires, I thought these were very apt.

We presented one of the Kangaroo in Forest cards and a box of chocolates to the Howlong Rural Fire Brigade in appreciation of the work that they do.
